Once the lakes freeze over, they provide the perfect surface for easy, scenic cross-country skiing. Choose between short, flat loops or longer, more challenging routes. There are more than 100 kilometers of groomed trails within one hour of Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, and the hotel's Winter Activity Centre has cross-country ski rentals from about December to April. In downtown Jasper, Edge Control also offers rentals.

A snow maze south of Winnipeg hoping to break a Guinness World Record is now open to the public.

“We didn’t do any advertising because we actually had no idea when we would be done,” says the maze’s owner, Clint Masse.

It’s a corn maze in the summer, and for the first time ever, a snow maze in the winter.

"These are things I see on a regular basis," said Sulz.

Sulz is hoping the B.C. government's new chain-up regulations for big commercial vehicles will make the highway safer. It's now mandatory for truckers to carry chains on the Trans-Canada from October to March between Golden and Kamloops and in several other B.C. mountain passes.

The regulations cover vehicles with a gross weight in excess of 11,794 kilograms (with separate traction requirements for vehicles under that weight). The new regs show exactly which tires need to be chained up when the roads turn treacherous and a mandatory chain-up requirement is put in place.

The stricter rules require truckers to chain up as many as six tires if the rig includes two trailers — up from just one tire requiring chains.

The carnage has taken a personal toll on Sulz.

"To say that some of us out there, [that] our lives have been changed because of poor road conditions or inexperienced driving, I'd say, yeah, it's very, very prominent," said Sulz.

The head of the local RCMP detachment says there are several reasons more crashes are happening — more traffic and tired, inattentive drivers.

"The statistics are showing that trucks are falling off the road, they're going off the road, they're spinning out. They needed some direction. Although chain-up legislation existed, this is a little more stringent."

There were 13 commercial drivers killed in motor vehicle incidents in B.C. in 2017, the highest number in at least 10 years. A passenger in one of those rigs was also killed.

Walk the Cloudraker Skybridge at the Peak of Whistler Mountain

1. Cavell Meadows

Details: This trail doesn’t open until the early summer, when it’s dry enough and ready for hiking. The road to get here, Edith Cavell Road, opens in late June and closes in late September or early October when the snow starts to fall. No dogs are allowed on this trail, as the Cavell Meadows has been identified as critical Woodland caribou habitat. The Cavell Meadows are a dream come true for the flower lover, and this beautiful scenery, mixed with the majestic mountains, makes this trail very popular.

Edith Cavell Road는 6월 말에 개장하며 눈이 내리기 시작하는 9월 말 또는 10 월 초에 닫힙니다. Cavell Meadows가 중요한 Woodland caribou(순록) 서식지로 확인되었으므로 이 트레일에는 개를 허용(동반할 수 없다)하지 않습니다. Cavel Medows는 꽃 애호가들의 꿈이 실현된 곳이고, 이 아름다운 풍경은 majestic mountains과 어우러져 이 코스를 매우 인기 있게 만듭니다.

이곳은 이번 여름에 제가 다녀온 곳인데요.정상으로 가는 길 마지막에 다다를즈음이 수목 한계선이라주변에 나무가 없는 탁트인 정상에서 바라보는 서라운드 뷰가 환상적이었습니다.이번 여름 하이킹 갔을때 찍은 사진 몇장 올려봅니다.
