Magnitude 4.5 quake strikes near Fort St. John

포트 세인트존스 부근에서 진도 4.5 지진 발생



Residents of Fort St. John and the Peace Region reported shaking after a magnitude 4.5 earthquake struck the area on Thursday night.



목요일 밤 진도 4.5의 지진이 그 지역을 강타한 후에 흔들렸다고 포트 세인트존과 피스리버지역 주민들이 전했다.



The quake struck 16 kilometres southwest of Fort St. John at 5:27 p.m. PT, (6:27 p.m. MT), according to Earthquakes Canada.



Earthquakes Canada에 따르면 이 지진은 5:27 p.m. PT, (6:27 p.m. MT)에 포트 세인트존 남서쪽 16km 지점에서 발생했다고 하는데요.



The quake struck at a depth of 10 kilometres.

The agency says shaking was felt in Fort St. John, Taylor, Chetwynd and Dawson Creek.



이 지진 진원지의 깊이는 10km이며 포트 세인트존을 포함, Taylor, Chetwynd and Dawson Creek에서도 흔들림을 감지했다고 캐나다 지진협회는 말했다.



 One resident described the quake as feeling like “a big rolling wave,” while another said they felt their “entire building shake like the top floor was gonna fall off.”



한 주민은 지진의 느낌이 "마치 큰파도와 같았고," 또 다른 주민은 "꼭대기 층이 떨어질 것처럼 빌딩의 전체가 흔들렸다."고 말했다.



Pacific Geoscience Centre seismologist John Cassidy said the quake was followed by a pair of aftershocks, at 6:06 p.m. PT and 6:15 p.m. PT, both in the magnitude 3.5 to 4.0 range.



태평양지질센터(Pacific Geoscience Center) 지진학자 John Cassidy는 이 지진후에  태평양 표준시 6시 06분 및 오후 6시 15분, 3.5~4.0 범위의 두차례 여진이 뒤 따랐다고 말했다.  .



The B.C. Oil and Gas Commission said it is aware of the quake, and looking into whether there was any connection between it and hydraulic fracturing operations in the area.



B.C. Oil and Gas협회는 지진을인지하고 있으며 이 지역의 수리학적파손과의 연관성이 있었는지 조사했다고 전했다.



BC Hydro says there were no injuries at the Site C dam, but that it has deployed a team to inspect the site for damage or impact to operations.



BC 수력발전소는 현장 C 댐에는 파손이 없었지만 가동에 대한 손상이나 파손이 있었는지에 대해 조사 할 팀을 배치했다고 전했다.



It says any impact likely won’t be clear until the morning when crews can make use of daylight.

하지만 직원들이 출근하는 아침까지는 그 충격이 어떤 영향이 있을지 명확하지 않다고 합니다.



There were no immediate reports of serious damage.

그곳에서는 심각한 피해에 대한 즉각적인 보고는 없었습니다.
